It is possible, as one of your more life-experienced readers, who has seen a number of Bogart movies, you had my interest at the words “a man who doesn’t stand for something, he ‘believes’ in something.” I wanted to continue reading; nonetheless, I paced myself not miss a descriptive word. Your powerful writing & way with words has the ability to transform your readers emotionally. It did me. You unequivocally have the ability ‘to paint an imaginative picture.’ You have a gift. “That no one can deny.”
Looking forward to what’s next… Thank you very much.
Dislike! You definitely could! You might like the book, The Creative Act: A Way of Being. I just finished reading it and found it helpful. It's changed my thinking about my writing on Substack, which I often get discouraged about.
This is wondrous, Jenna. I’m rereading to tease out the threads you put into it, the dreamers, set in relief against the “malign flatterers.” Haha, some great sets of icons and refuseniks (just generically speaking) Defiant ones. Figuring out also what is worth holding onto as one cannot hold onto everything reverberated with me. See if someone will pick it up and recirculate it. I say that knowing they’re hard to find, but you could kickstart your expectations just by hearing that. You are as good as the last thing and the next thing you write, so I hope you write again soon. These pieces are timeless. You don’t always have to knock it out of the park. You can smash a line drive and be content. I’d be happy to read you more often. Theo
Ha well even a blind squirrel finds a nut once in a while. I guess the more I write the better my chances I stumble onto something that people find worth their while to read. At least I hope so, not setting the world on fire over here.
Great essay, Ms. Stocker. I really appreciate you including the full lyrics to “As Time Goes By.” I spent a pleasant part of the evening finding a few recordings with them.

The gratitude is all mine. Thank you for your kind words, always. It lifts my spirit.
Wow... informative and entertaining. Have you ever considered writing a novel?
No -- I wish I was that talented! I wouldn't know where to begin, Jim.

Lol, well at least I got a good book recommendation -- thank you Lisa. And I do very much appreciate the support.
A quintessential anti-woke treatise. Bravo!
Thank you -- and thanks so much for the restack!

I love finding little treasures and seeing where they take me. I'm glad you found one here. Thank you for reading and the too kind words!
Great stuff. Good to read one of your essays again. You have a knack for bringing your reader into the story and experiencing it.
Thank you, sir. I appreciate it!
