I always enjoy reading you. This was a little different flavor of syrup, but still delicious enough to come back for more and pop open a new can!

I've been shadowbanned on X (😔) & tried to reply to you twice, so I'll do it here.

You are really very talented. This was wonderful — definitely a re-reading. You have such a deft hand at figurative language, & you're pragmatic without sinking into cynicism.

Quite enjoyed it.

I love love love the vintage photos and illustrations. Our world would be much better off if more people took the time to read up on history. There is nothing new under the sun and it adds a healthy dose of perspective to current events. Every day and everyone is a mixed bag, and we would all do well to extend grace to everyone we interact with.

The old photos are my favorite. I fear in the new digital age people will be less interested in them. But as you say, it offers a certain perspective lacking today, along with a healthy, heavy dose of grace. Thanks for the wisdom, Will.

Jenna,

As previous readers have eloquently commented — you have composed another imaginative & excellent essay. I read this piece (more than once) when first published. I apologize for being late with my own comment. In the interim, I pondered how best to express my appreciation for your work. The thought occurred, when writing, your brain waves & thought processes may be comparable to adding just the perfect variety of fresh fruits & milk into a Ninja blender to make a healthy & delicious slurpee. However, in my opinion, Mr. Olsen’s comment “A thought travelogue” is a far superior & definitive description of this essay.

Keep up the great work, we appreciate it!
